Tuto couture : les masques d'Halloween

Sewing tutorial: create your own Halloween mask

To carry out felt masks is a fun, easy-to-set-up, and educational activity for children. To make them, you will only need felt , of glue , elastic and a model .

This tutorial, ideal for Halloween parties or for create a scary costume. This activity is simple and easy to do with children and is accessible even to young children because felt is an easy material to work with. The masks are designed for children aged 8 to 10 years , but they can be adjusted for different sizes by modifying the pieces during printing (reduce by 5 to 10%).

Here are some general guidelines on the appropriate ages for certain stages of the activity, as well as the skills developed with adult supervision:

  • From age 3 Children can begin to manipulate felt and participate in simple activities like gluing. This helps develop their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
  • From age 5 Children can begin using age-appropriate tools, such as safety scissors and fabric glue. They can cut felt using templates with the help of an adult. This strengthens their fine motor skills and their confidence in their abilities.
  • Ages 7 and up Children can start assembling the masks more independently, which promotes their creativity and sense of accomplishment.

To ensure this activity is safe for children, choose a solvent-free glue , that is to say, a water-based glue. BOHIN offers you a Textile glue , suitable for felt, perfect for this activity.

Important note : Water-based glue takes longer to dry. For best results, allow the glue to dry completely after positioning the piece, without touching it until it is dry.

Here are the steps to follow to create these adorable masks:

  • Print the pattern for the mask of your choice.
  • Cut out each piece of the pattern (You can transfer it onto a rigid template to keep the shape and reproduce it infinitely!).
  • Trace the pattern pieces onto the corresponding felt sheets.
  • Cut out each piece from the felt.
  • Layer and glue the different pieces of the mask together.
  • (After gluing the pieces together, you can sew them.)
  • Make a hole on each side of the mask and thread an elastic band through it.

And there you have it, a mask ready to be worn!

The detailed shapes of these masks are available for download and are very easy to use. Each page represents a different animal:

  • The vampire and his sharp fangs
